De Loach OFS Pinot Noir 2024

California, USA. Grapes: Pinot Noir, Durif (Petite Syrah), Petit Verdot.

Perfect with Spring Lamb when it starts to arrive in butchers’ shops mid-March onwards. Would also sit alongside traditional roast chicken, chicken and mushroom pie, and work particularly well with pork pies over lunch with a baked potato.

Bright red and black fruits on the nose. Smooth and immensely drinkable on the palate with warm flavours of red cherries, black plums, and cranberry

A blend of grapes from Northern California, encompassing many sites to create a perfectly balanced wine that delivers a crafted wine at a certain price point.

Founders Cecil and Christine DeLoach planted their first Russian River vines in 1971, with the first vintage being 1975. A Burgundian family, Boisset, bought the winery in 2003, adding extensive sustainable winemaking experience to the estate. Guessing, this is probably an exclusive for Waitrose.

Although exact percentages of the three different grape varieties are not provide, the primary component is Pinot Noir: the bedrock of Burgundy. It is rare to come across Durif, and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) recognises "Durif" and "Petite Sirah" as the same grape. Petit Verdot is an interesting addition, as this is a grape variety usually associated with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot blends. However, often used to bring a full-bodied, and highly aromatic profile, and hence accounts for the overall richness of this wine.
